This study examines how characteristics of cooperatives and those of cultural content industry can be combined to contribute to the development of alternative media. Some benefits can be expected if cultural content industry and cooperatives are combined, as more stable base for production can be provided and cultural creativity can be fostered as well. This study, based on the relationship between cultural content industry and cooperatives, analyzes cases related to the Media Cooperative Kookmin TV, and probes the possibility for alternative media to grow. For this, the study first looks at the background behind the Kookmin TV’s establishment including its main purpose, and systematically shows how it is operated along with its organizational structure. Then this study shows how its businesses and activities are carried out, while at the same time discussing some problems and trials and errors that alternative media in the form of cooperatives can face at their early stage. Lastly, through the discussions above, the study examines some challenges for us to overcome in the course of pursuing fair alternative media and explores the possibility for cultural content cooperatives to develop in the future.

본 연구에서는 협동조합과 문화콘텐츠산업의 특성들이 어떻게 융합되어 대안미디어의 발전에 역할을 할 수 있는지에 대해서 탐색해 보고 있다. 문화콘텐츠산업이 협동조합과 결합하면 콘텐츠 생산자들에게 안정적인 생산토대를 제공해 줌과 동시에 문화의 창의성을 발현시켜 줄 수 있는 장점이 있다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 문화콘텐츠산업과 협동조합의 연계성에 대해서 ‘미디어협동조합 국민TV’의 분석을 통해 대안 미디어의 발전 가능성을 살펴보고 있다. 이를 위해 먼저 ‘미디어협동조합 국민TV’의 설립 목적 및 배경에 대해서 살펴보고 조직과 운영에 대해서 정리하고 있다. 그리고 ‘미디어협동조합 국민TV’의 사업과 활동이 어떻게 전개되고 있는지에 대한 내용들을 정리하면서 협동조합 형태의 대안미디어의 시작과정에서 겪은 시행착오와 문제점들에 대해서 논의를 진행하고 있다. 그리고 이를 통해 공정한 대안 미디어를 지향하는 과정에서 극복해야 할 과제들을 파악하고 문화콘텐츠 협동조합의 발전 가능성에 대해서 고민해 보고 있다.
