Though the eventfulness of language plays an important role within the New Homiletic, the concept is normally regarded as peripheral in many studies on the New Homiletic. The reason could be thought that the concept in which the eventfulness is inherent in language was not emerged in the New Homiletic itself but created and developed from previous theological movements. To focus primarily on the evenfulness of language as a underpinning of the New Homiletic, therefore, this study first traces the theological origin of the concept. And, this study scrutinizes how the eventfulness of language influences ideas of the New Homiletic: 1) the purpose of preaching; 2) the understanding of the Word of God and the Bible; 3) the role of the Holy Spirit in preaching, and then presents critical reflection on them. This study demonstrate that the eventfulnss of language is a pivotal underpinning of the New Homiletic and also show theological assumptions in the homiletical movement.

언어의 사건성 개념이 신설교학에서 중요한 역할을 함에도 불구하고, 대부분의 신설교학 연구에서 이 개념이 부각되지 않는 경우가 많았다. 그 이유는 언어의 사건성이 신설교학 내부에서 만들어진 개념이 아니라, 이전의 신학적 흐름 속에서 생성되고 발전된 개념이기 때문이라고 생각된다. 그러므로 이 연구에서는 언어의 사건성을 신설교학의 중심 전제로서 연구하되, 우선 언어가 사건성을 가지고 있다는 개념의 신학적인 기원을 추적한다. 그리고 난 후, 이 언어의 사건성 개념이 신설교학의 견해, 즉 1) 설교의 목표, 2) 하나님의 말씀과 성경에 대한 개념, 그리고 3) 설교에서 성령의 역할에 대해 어떤 영향을 미쳤는지 분석하고 비판적으로 숙고한다. 이 연구를 통해서 신설교학에서 사건성이 얼마나 중심된 근거인지 확인하게 될 뿐 아니라, 신설교학에 포함된 신학적인 가정들 또한 발견할 수 있을 것이다.
