To choose a preaching unit from a certain text and to confirm it as the foundation for the authority and relevance of preaching is the first task for the sermon-making process. In fact, choosing and confirm a preaching unit is not an easy but a complicated work that can influence the whole sermon-making process. Despite the importance of choosing a preaching unit for sermon preparation, there is a lack in hermeneutcal and homiletical studies or suggestions for it. In this respect, the main purpose of this article is to suggest a concrete suggestion for choosing a preaching unit―that is considering the textuality for a preaching unit. Accordingly, this paper first examines and evaluates comtemporary homileitcal theories(including expository preaching, new homiletics, and text-driven preaching scholars) regarding to choosing a preaching unit. Based upon the evaluations of them, this paper offers the necessity for choosing a preaching unit in consideration of textuality. Finally, this paper provides the efficiency and implications of choosing a preaching unit in consideration of textuality with an example of Mark 14:1-11.

설교가 지닌 권위와 적실성의 근거가 되는 성경 본문의 적정 단위를 선정하고 확정하는 일은 설교 작성을 위해 설교자가 가장 먼저 해야 할 과제이다. 하지만 설교본문 선정과 확정은 생각보다 어렵고 복잡한 일이며, 이는 설교 작성의 전체 과정에 영향을 미친다. 이처럼 설교본문 선정이 지닌 중요성이 큼에도 불구하고, 실제 설교자가 본문을 선정하고 확정하는 것에 대한 구체적인 해석학적/설교학적인 고민과 제안들이 부족한 것이 사실이다. 이러한 맥락 속에서 이 논문의 주요 목적은 설교본문 선정과 확정에 해석학적/설교학적 하나의 대안을 제언하는데 있다. 이를 위하여 우선 다수의 현대강해설교학자들, 신설교학자들, 본문의 중심성을 강조하는 최근의 설교학자들의 본문 선정에 관한 설명과 평가를 내린다. 이를 기준으로 설교단위 선정과 확정을 위한 구체적인 하나의 잣대로 본문성(textuality)을 고려한 설교본문 선정의 중요성과 필요성을 제시하고 있다. 이에 관한 증명으로 마가복음 14장 1절-11절의 본문의 단위를 살펴봄으로 본문성을 고려한 설교 본문 선정의 유효성과 그 함의들을 제공하고 있다.
