A kindergarten is a place to educate infants from full 3 years old to the age of entering elementary school. The kindergarten for an object of this study includes one national kindergarten, 335 public ones and 429 private ones, and their names of 765 ones in total in Osaka are taken into consideration. The most popular name of the ones of kindergartens in Japan is related to a geographical thing, that is, the geographical name. This includes not only the name of a city, of a district, and of a town but also the name of an ancient place or of a complex. The name of a person including a personal pronoun is shown at 34 kindergartens, and is actively used by private kindergartens. The number of botanical name is 101, and private kindergartens are using it more than two times than public ones are. The names of flowers and trees take up half and half. Chinese character is overwhelmingly used in their transcription; Hiragana is used more than Katakana; Roman character is used in only one place. Besides, we can see kindergartens take their names from educational and historical things as well other than geographical ones by judging from the fact that they brought their names from a chronological era and took the names originated from “the Bible”, “the Analects”, “the Great Learning”, and Greek and Roman mythology. The main reference book was “A School Catalog in Osaka in 2013” and http://www.youchien.com that is the site of Private Kindergarten Association in Japan was searched.
