Popular Sovereignty Education for Democracy Project 1
초록
영어
This project will be reported at the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) on November in Nagoya, Japan. I am planning to make a presentationon this projectat this Association’s conferences twice in spring and in autumn with the hope of asking all of you, especially, members from countries that have experienced hard processes of democratization critics and comments which surely enable us to create an innovative draft platform for “sustainable democracy”. I am much concerned about deficient political participation in my country, Japan where the democracy is in danger though democratic institutions are (were) consolidated. This brought me a reflection over our responsibility as a participant in sovereignty of our each nation. To become a responsible participant in sovereignty of democratic nation, we need to develop the capabilities to examine information by ourselves (media literacy), listen to different viewpoints (dialogue) and to contribute mutually to others in a vulnerable position (community) through education in compulsory schooling or in social life. In this project I emphasize the concept of “responsibility” for that the democracy is built and sustained only by people’s efforts.
