There are two kinds of mistakes or inadequate expressions in dissertations and reports written in Japanese by Korean learners : 1) Those which almost do not alter communication(=local error) and 2) those which lead to serious misunderstandings or make thought communication difficult(=global error).Determining the problems belonging to the latter and remedy them is believed to be an important matter in the education of learners who wish to master technical or practical Japanese.Based on samples of dissertations written in Japanese by Korean learners, the study investigates what points are not accepted by Japanese native speakers and to what extent Korean learners understand these problems.As a result, we can assume that "problems in contextual structures"lead to serious problems in communication, far more than vocabulary, grammar (case-markers or conjugation and so on) and that learners understood what "problems in contextual structures" hardly recognizes.
