Major developed countries, including Korea, have traditionally operated early childhood education and child care in dualistic system, but now the reinforcement of a teacher’s qualification in pursuit of cooperation and the integration of early childhood education and the child care system is becoming important. This is due to changes in social structure and lifestyle, a decrease in birth rate, an increase of women’s economic activity, lifelong education, children’s education and care etc. What is needed for this? With an awareness of this problem, this study looks into the history of early childhood education, examines the validity of existing viewpoints of childhood education, establishes a desirable viewpoint of early childhood teacher education in Christian schools by comparative analysis of status and the present condition of early childhood teacher education in the United States and Korea, and aims to present the foundation for the improvement of the training system of early childhood teachers. The conclusions from this study are as follows. First, in order to enhance the qualification of pre-service teachers, the combining of theories and practice is needed so that these theories can be put into practice in the field. For this purpose, high-quality education programs for teachers should be established, in addition to self-understanding through self-training of pre-service teachers. Furthermore, the system of pre-internship and student teaching for pre-service teachers’ education, that utilizes the connection of theories and life, should be reinforced. Second, the pre-service teacher’s ability to connect theories and life can be taught through alternative practical education in various dimensions; this is not standardized but can be achieved through diverse and flexible strategies. In order to do this, motivation for pre-service teachers to become teacher-researchers through pre-education is needed, as well as a change of awareness about students in the course of training education for Christian pre-service teachers.

주요 선진국들과 우리나라는 전통적으로 유아교육과 보육을 이원적 체제로 운영해왔으나 사회구조와 생활방식 변화, 출산율 감소와 여성의 경제활동 증가, 평생학습, 아동의 교육 및 보육을 받을 권리 등으로 유아교육과 보육 체제의 협력과 통합을 추구하며 교사 자격 강화를 위해 노력하고 있다. 이를 위해 필요한 것이 무엇인가? 이러한 문제의식에 따라 본 연구는 유아교사 교육의 역사를 살펴보고 기존유아교육관의 교육학적 타당성을 검토하며, 미국과 우리나라의 유아교사 교육 실태 및 현황을 비교분석함으로써 기독교학교의 바람직한 유아교사 교육관을 정립하고, 유아교사 양성제도 개선을 위한 기초를 제시하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 예비교사의 자질을 향상하기 위해서는 이론과 실제를 결합하고 삶의 현장에서 이론이 실천되어야 한다. 이를 위해 예비교사 자신의 자기양성을 통한 자기이해 위에 질 높은 교사교육 프로그램이 구축되어야 하며, 이론과 삶을 연결하는 예비교사교육의 제도로서 사전실습과 교생실습을 강화해야 한다. 둘째, 이론과 삶을 연결하는 예비 유아교사의 자질은 다양한 방면에서 대안적 실습교육을 통해 이루어질 수 있으며 이것은 획일적이지 않으며 다양하고 융통성 있게 개발될 수 있다. 이를 위해 예비교사교육 프로그램을 통해 예비교사들이 교사-연구자가 되도록 동기부여를 해야 한다. 또 기독예비교사 양성교육과정에서 교사들의 예비교사인 학생에 대한 인식 전환이다.
