The topic of this article is what robot law is, a field of subjec t that arises with the advent of today’s emerging technologies of artificial intelligence and robots. The article aims to introduce t he main ideas and issues of robot law, thereby exploring where it is located as a field of study. The main issues of robot law to be addressed are as follows: (1) what the legal status of robots is, (2) how and where the regulation governance of robots shoul d go, (3) how to protect privacy and personal information, (4) how to address tort liability for the accidents due to intelligent robots, and (5) how to address the criminal responsibility of suc h robots. The discussion that follows will demonstrate that robo t law, which started from the existing areas of science-technolog y and law, is now passing a turning point and then will go tow ard a stage of revolutionary advancement and change.

이 글의 토픽은 요즘 인공지능과 로봇의 세상이 다가오면서 새로이 부각되고 있는 로봇법학이란 무엇인가 하는 문제다. 필자는 로봇법학의 개념적 의의와 주요 쟁점들을 소개한다. 이를 통해 로봇법학이 현재 어디에 위치해 있는지를 조명하고자 한다. 로봇법학의 주요 쟁점으로는, (1) 로봇의 법적 지위를 어떻게 볼 것인가, (2) 로봇에 대한 규제 거버넌스는 어떠해야 하는가, (3) 로봇의 확산과 침투로 인해 불거지는 프라이버시 및 개인정보 보호 문제와 해결 방안은 무엇인가, (4) 로봇으로 인한 사고의 민사적 책임은 어떠한가, (5) 로봇으로 인한 범죄의 형사적 책임은 어떠한가를 다룬다. 이러한 논의를 통해, 로봇법학이 기존의 여러 과학기술법학 영역들과 유사한 상태에서부터 출발하여, 이제는 하나의 전환점으로, 나아가 그것을 넘어 혁명적인 발전과 변화의 지점으로 향해가고 있음을 보게 될 것이다.
