The dichotomies of knowledge and action, theory and practice have been the central issues of arguments for a long time in the history of philosophy. Traditional confucian has contended that the former should go side by side with the latter in the light of intellectualism. But Haegang Choi Han-ki, the philosopher in late Chosun Dynasty asserted some special theories about this problem. In the light of Ki monism, he beheld that Knowledge is nothing but a guess of Ki, action function of Ki. In the end, knowledge and action, theory and practice are the other sides of one coin, Ki. Some scholars have contended that the gist of Haegang's thought was the priority of knowledge to action, theory to practice. But we conclude that Haegang's main ideas went around the thorough parallelism of the knowledge and action, theory and practice. Because both stems from the only principle, namely the guess and function of Ki. According to him, there are three stages in the development of Ki. Firstly, to get something from outside is the primary process. Secondly, to dye oneself with it gradually. Lastly, to spray it to outside widey. The pararellism of knowledge and action, theory and practice in Haegang's philosophy is nothing but the results of dialectic interaction of his Ki monism.

앎과 행위, 인식과 실천의 관계는 주요한 철학적 쟁점을 이루어왔다. 전통적으로 유가에서는 知行幷進, 知行合一 등의 주지주의적 성격을 지닌다. 그러나 혜강 최한기는 기일원론의 관점에서 행위 자체가 기의 전개로써 氣의 작용이 行이고 기의 條理의 추측이 知라고 해명한다. 그가 앎과 행위의 관계에서 전통이론과 변별되는 독특한 관점을 제시하게 되는 것은 이런 세계관 때문이다. 앎과 행위에 대한 혜강의 관점은 선행후지로 요약되곤 하지만 사실은 行知倂發에 가까운 것으로, 행은 지를 말미암아 이루어지고 지는 행을 말미암아 세워지는 것이다. 이는 근원적 삶의 실천적 행위가 인식론적 반성적 이론적 앎을 견인하는 것을 의미한다. 구체적으로 혜강은 앎과 행위의 과정을 밖에서 얻는 단계, 안에서 물들이는 단계, 다시 밖에 베푸는 세 단계의 변증법적 상호작용으로 파악한다. 즉 앎과 행위, 인식과 실천의 전 과정을 연속적인 범주 속에서 이해하고 있는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 혜강의 인식론적 방법적 특징에 따라 앎과 행위에 대한 혜강의 실천적 인식 과정을 세 단계로 구분하여 논의하고자 한다. 그것은 밖에서 들여오는 감성적 경험, 안에서 머무는 추측의 확충, 다시 밖으로 내보내어 쓰는 변통의 구현 단계로 요약된다.
