Recently, all countries of the world are developing the technology of scientific public security which turned scientific technology into the activity of the police, showing the development of remarkable science and technology in many different fields. Scientific public security is the activity of the police for maintaining and preserving peace and order of the state and society using science and technology. And it is, currently in at home and abroad, raising the efficiency of police work using the technology of scientific public security such as Smartwatch, public security drone, robocop, etc. The development of science and technology can show life-enhancing results; however, it can cause problems such as crime enhancement as a new type of crime using new technology occurs. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety of the people in the future society, the police should have continued interest in and support SMART Policing and science public security R&D and do community policing. Introducing and utilizing new scientific technology in the public security field can be a new challenge and opportunity for police and will have a large impact on it. This study, by examining and analyzing the examples of scientific public security technology which are being used or developed, presented a proposal essential to the direction of police in the future security environment.

최근에 다양한 분야에서 눈부신 과학기술의 발전을 보여주면서, 세계 각국에서는 경찰활동에 과학기술을 접목한 과학치안 기술개발을 하고 있다. 과학치안은 과학기술을 활용하여 국가 사회의 안녕과 질서를 유지·보전하고자 하는 경찰활동으로, 현재 국내외에서는 스마트워치, 치안드론, 로봇경찰, 프레드폴 등 과 같은 과학치안 기술을 사용하여 경찰업무에 효율성을 높이고 있다. 과학기술의 발전은 삶의 질이 높아지는 결과를 보여줄 수도 있지만, 신기술을 이용한 신종범죄 발생, 범죄 고도화 등과 같은 문제점이 나타날 수 있다. 그러므로 미래사회에서 국민들의 안전을 보장하기 위하여 경찰들은 SMART Policing, 과학치안 R&D에 지속적인 관심과 지원, 지역사회 경찰활동을 해야 한다. 새로운 과학기술을 치안분야에 도입 하고 활용하는 것은 경찰조직에 새로운 도전과 기회가 될 수 있고 많은 영향을 미칠 것이다. 이 연구는 현재 사용되거나 개발진행중인 과학치안 기술의 사례를 살펴보고 분석해봄으로써 향후 치안환경에서 경찰조직이 나아가야 할 방향성에 필요한 제언을 제시하였다.
