Constantly managing the scenes of cases such as homicide, robbery, violence, sexual violence, suicide, traffic accident, etc., policemen are injured or witness injury or death of colleagues when arresting criminals. Thus, policemen are much more subject to stress or mental damage caused by traumatic cases than people. Then, National Police Agency has installed and operated 4 trauma centers since 2014 for specialized treatment of job stress such as policemen’s trauma. The name was improved to ‘Police Mind Health Center’ to mitigate negative image of trauma and to let policemen use the center with ease in April 2017 and 2 centers are additionally installed and operated. This study intends to view the case of managing trauma in foreign countries and to present the method for activation of center on the basis of present situation & problem in operating ‘Police Mind Health Center’ by investigating the trauma & policemen’s trauma in order to present the method for activation of center.

경찰관들은 살인, 강도, 폭력, 성폭력, 자살, 교통사고 등의 사건 현장을 지속적으로 다루고 있으며, 범인 검거시 본인이 부상을 입거나 동료의 부상이나 사망을 목격하기도 한다. 따라서 경찰관들은 일반인들에 비하여 외상성 사건으로 인해 스트레스 또는 정신적 손상을 입을 가능성이 크다. 이에 경찰청에서는 경찰관의 트라우마 등 직무스트레스 전문치유를 위해 2014년부터 트라우마센터 4개소를 설치·운영 중이고, 2017년 4월에는 ‘마음동행센터’로 명칭을 개선하였으며, 2개소를 추가 개소하여 운영하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 경찰 마음동행센터 활성화 방안을 제시하기 위해 직무스트레스와 외상 후 스트레스 장애의 개념, 국내외의 트라우마 관리 사례 등을 살펴보고, 경찰의 외상후 스트레스 장애 조사 결과, 마음동행센터 운영현황을 바탕으로 주기적인 정신건강 검사의 실시, 다양한 교육프로그램 개발 및 확대, 접근성 확보를 위한 해바라기센터와 연계 운영 등 활성화 방안을 제시하였다.
