This study seeks to ponder upon the underlying mechanism to prevent the keen conflict between Korea and China that has been reached its peak followed by the decision to deploy the THAAD system. Although the tension between two countries expected to be waned as both heads of state agreed to shelve THAAD standoff, the kind of conflict may arises again if not managed properly. A year of hostilities between South Korea and China raises two questions. The first is an intrinsic question of how to interpret China’s international behavioral pattern, and the second is how to deal with China’s increasing assertive behavior. The former is theoretical interpretation of Chinese foreign policy, while the latter is aimed at preventing future security conflict that could possibly be recurred. This paper suggests that the two countries ought to cooperate in resolving North Korean nuclear issues that has originally caused the dire schism.

이 연구는 사드(THAAD: 고고도 미사일 방어체계) 배치결정 이후 그동안 한중 양국간에 고조되었던 갈등 양상을 조명해 봄으로써, 제2, 제3의 갈등구도를 막는 전략적 대응을 모색하는 것에 그 목적이 있다. 기존의 한중관계의 갈등양상 국면의 과정은 두 가지의 학술적인 질문을 제시한다. 첫째는 “중국의 국제행태를 어떻게 해석해야 하는가”라는 내재적인 질문이며, 둘째는 “향후 한국의 대중국 대응전략을 어떻게 만들어 가야하는가”라는 정책적인 질문이다. 전자는 중국외교정책에 대한 해석이며, 후자는 향후 바람직한 한중관계의 제시와 더불어 재발할 수 있는 안보군사적 갈등을 미연에 방지하거나 관리방안을 모색하는 것에 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 한･중 갈등의 원인이 되었던 북핵문제의 해결을 위해 양국이 협력해 나아가야 한다고 제시한다.
