This study aims to investigate the relationship between the genre of newspaper articles and the frequency with which particular connective endings are used in the articles’ text. The results could help foreign language learners understand how connective endings are used in social and cultural contexts and how to use these connective endings in social interactions. The study hypothesized that the frequency with which connective endings appear will vary according to the article’s genre factors. The section in which a newspaper article appears—such as opinion, society, or sports—was used to define its topic and genre factors. In order to verify differences in the frequency of connective endings by article topic, a statistical survey, a Chi-square test, and a correspondence analysis were conducted based on their frequency in the Sejong Corpus. The findings show that, of the 94 connective endings that appear in newspaper text, 16 are used more frequently in particular topical sections of newspapers. By examining sample sentences, the relationship between the meaning of these connective endings and the genre factors of newspaper text was determined. (Seoul National University)

본 연구에서는 신문 코퍼스를 대상으로 글의 장르성과 관련된 연결어미의 사용 양상에 관해 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 세종 코퍼스의 신문 텍스트를 사설, 사회, 스포츠의 주제 영역별로 구분하여 이 텍스트에 나타난 94개 연결어미 항목의 빈도를 작성하였다. 다음으로 카이제곱 검증과 대응분석을 실시하여 두 분석의 교집합에 해당하는 16개 어미를 각 주제 영역에 대응되는 어미로 선정하였다. 이 어미들이 코퍼스에 쓰인 문장을 살펴본 결과 각 주제 영역별로 주장하기, 설명하기, 묘사하기의 장르성이 나타나는 양상에 차이가 있었고 이와 관련된 필자의 의도에 따라 각기 다른 의미의 연결어미가 선택되어 사용되고 있었다. 한국어 교육의 주된 교육 대상인 연결어미를 교수할 때 이와 같은 장르적 쓰임을 함께 제시하는 것은 학습자들이 연결어미를 실제적인 사회적 과정의 도구로 이해하고 사용하도록 하는 데에 유용한 교육 내용이 될 것이다.
