As the number of adolescents with various backgrounds rapidly increase, the society is paying more attention to education intended to help adaptation of multicultural youth to the Korean society. Especially from the macroscopic point of view, the role of youth workers who teach adolescents in training, exchange, volunteer, and art activities in the local community became more important. This study examined understanding of and attitude to multiculture education environment, role of multiculture education, and multicultural youth activities, of youth workers. For the study, 265 youth workers working in a youth institution or organization were selected as subjects. The analysis showed significant difference in all of the sub-domains in understanding of and attitude to multiculture education. Based on the result, the author discussed requirements for youth workers and institutional support that are necessary for multiculture education, and proposed policy that will enable the government, local government, and public to provide an opportunity and practical support for multiculture education to youth workers.

다양한 배경을 지닌 청소년들의 수가 급격히 증가하면서 다문화청소년의 한국사회 적응을 위한 교육이 주목을 받기 시작했다. 특히, 청소년들의 교육활동 범위를 거시적인 관점에서 바라보았을 때, 지역사회 내에서 청소년활동을 통하여 수련활동, 교류활동, 동 아리활동, 봉사활동, 예술활동 등을 지도하는 청소년지도사의 역할이 더욱 중요해졌다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 청소년지도사의 다문화교육에 대한 이해와 태도를 알아보기 위하 여 ‘다문화교육 환경에 대한 이해와 태도’, ‘다문화교육 역할에 대한 이해와 태도’, ‘다문 화 청소년활동에 대한 이해와 태도’, ‘다문화 활동과정에 대한 이해와 태도’를 살펴보았 다. 이를 위하여 청소년기관 및 단체 등에서 활동하고 있는 청소년지도사 265명을 연구 대상자로 선정하였다. 청소년지도사의 다문화교육에 대한 이해와 태도에 대한 분석 결과, 청소년지도사는 모든 하위영역에서 유의미한 차이를 보였으며, 위의 결과를 토대로 다문화교육과 관련 하여 청소년지도사에게 필요한 요건 및 제도적 지원방안을 모색하였다. 청소년지도사 에게 다문화교육의 기회를 제공하기 위해 정부, 지방자치단체 및 민간이 함께하는 정책 방향을 제시하였고, 청소년지도사를 위한 실용적인 다문화교육 지원방안 등을 제언하였다.
