In spite of the importance of reflecting students’ needs on field trips related to Korean traditional culture, relatively little is known about the actual needs of students. The purpose of this study is to suggest the improvement of field trips on Korean traditional culture. Data are drawn from survey of a representative sample of highschool freshmen(n= 471) in Incheon. Frequency analysis and content analysis were conducted on the data. The results were as follows. Firstly, it appears that varying the unit of the activity from grade unit to class unit is needed. Although large numbers of students experienced the activity in grade unit, the demand of class unit is relatively high. Secondly, the method of the activities needs to focus on experiencing the traditional culture not on sightseeing historical sites. Thirdly, students’ needs should be reflected on choosing places of the activity. Preference of contemporary cultural places such as Insadong is higher than exploring traditional cultural property. Finally, students’ awareness about traditional culture should be improved through ‘Creativity Activity’ in out-of-school. Survey showed that students’ images about traditional culture were limited to traditional food, clothes, historical sites. Therefore, it is crucial to select places to teach students how traditional culture is passed and inherited in current everyday life. Furthermore, field trips on Korean traditional culture should provide students the opportunity to understand the essence of traditional culture and to realize the significance of traditional culture.

이 연구의 목적은 고등학생의 전통문화에 대한 인식을 조사하고 전통문화 관련 교외 체험활동의 개선방안을 제시하는데 있다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 인천 소재 고등학교 1곳의 1학년 재학생 471명을 대상으로 2013년 9월에 설문조사를 실시하고 수집한 자료에 대한 빈도분석과 내용분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 체험활동 단위를 학년별에서 학급별로 다양화할 필요가 있다. 대부분의 학생들이 경험했던 체험활동의 단위는 학년별이었지만, 설문 결과 학생들의 원하는 체험활동 단위는 학급별로 드러났다. 둘째, 체험활동의 방식을 기존의 관 람 형식에서 탈피하여 체험 위주로 운영할 필요가 있다. 학생들이 경험했던 체험활동의 방식은 주로 이론식 수업, 관람 등 수동적인 교육이었지만, 요구하는 체험활동 방식은 체험이 주가 되는 능동적인 체험활동으로 분석되었다. 셋째, 체험활동 장소에 있어서 학 생들의 요구를 반영할 필요가 있다. 설문 결과 학생들이 체험활동 장소로 제일 희망하는 곳은 인사동으로 집계되었다. 기존의 전통적인 문화재 답사보다 인사동과 같은 현대 문 화 관련 장소의 선호도가 높았다. 넷째, 전통문화에 관한 학생들의 인식을 개선할 필요가 있다. 내용 분석 결과 학생들이 가진 전통문화에 대한 이미지로 전통적인 음식, 의복, 유적지 등으로 이루어져 있음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 전통 문화의 현대적 계승에 초점을 맞추어 체험활동 장소 선정을 하고, 일상 생활 속에서 전통 문화가 어떻게 계승되고 있는지를 지도할 필요가 있다. 앞으로 전통문 화 관련 교외 체험활동이 전통문화교육의 본질을 이해하고 전통문화의 의미를 되새길 수 있는 기회가 될 수 있도록 학습의 주체인 학생들의 의견을 적극적으로 반영하려는 노력이 필요하다.
