This study examined the students who participated in the program as tutors, the manager of the multicultural mentoring program and experiences of the mentors in order to apprehend the influence of the tutor’s role and function in the mentoring system. The research uses qualitative methods by having in-depth talks with tutors, mentors and managers, and furthermore referring to daily records and counseling contents. The researcher of this study is a graduate student and was able to participate as a tutor in the mentoring program personally. This study regards the tutor as an interventional manager in the mentoring system. The role of the tutor is to perform given tasks and make an effort to achieve the given goal efficiently, while being careful not to intervene directly. This has been proved to be at least the role of the tutors in the multicultural mentoring program. The functions of tutors that the tutor him/herself, mentor and administrator acknowledge are as follows. First, the tutors thought that the ideal role of a tutor is to act as a mental supporter and semi-supervisor of the mentors, but in reality, they were merely helpers of the administrator. Mentors, on the one hand, were extremely disappointed in that the tutors played an equivocal role and regarded them as unnecessary, but on the other hand, evaluated that they had been a great helping hand in mental support and task encouragement. In the case of administrators, they actually expected only accessorial help from them, but said the tutors achieved more than expected in that they increased the effectiveness of the mentors by supporting and communicating with them. Hopefully, mentoring programs exploiting tutors will be continuously enforced, examined and improved, so that the system can settle down to enhance the effectiveness of the multicultural mentoring business.

본 연구는 다문화학생 멘토링에서 매니저로서의 튜터의 역할에 대하여 정의하고, 멘토링 시스템에서 튜터의 역할과 기능이 멘토링 시스템에 주는 영향을 파악하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 연구자는 인하대학교 다문화 멘토링 사업 관련자들의 경험을 통 하여 튜터의 역할과 기능을 연구하였다. 본 연구자는 대학원생으로서 다문화 멘토링 사 업에 튜터로서 직접 참여하여 튜터의 역할을 경험할 수 있었으며, 튜터와 멘토, 관리자를 대상으로 심층 면담하고 일지와 상담내용을 참고하여 연구를 진행하였다. 이 연구에서는 다문화학생 멘토링에서의 튜터의 역할을 매니저의 역할로 보았다. 튜 터 당사자, 멘토, 관리자가 인식한 튜터의 역할과 기능에 대한 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 튜터 당사자가 인식하는 튜터는 멘토의 정서적 지원자, 세미 슈퍼바이저의 역할을 하고자 하였으나 관리자의 도우미 역할이었던 것 같다고 하였다. 둘째, 멘토들은 큰 도움을 기대에 반하여 오히려 이중적인 보고 등으로 불필요한 존재라는 인식도 있었 으나 정서적 지지와 업무 독려 등이 많은 도움이 되었더라는 긍정적인 평가를 하였다. 셋 째, 관리자의 입장에서 경험한 튜터는 관리자의 보조 역할을 예상하였으나 멘토에 대한 지원과 소통으로 멘토의 효능감을 증대시킴으로 멘토링 시스템의 효과 증진에 도움이 되 었다고 하였다. 앞으로도 튜터를 활용한 멘토링이 지속적으로 시행되기를 바라며, 연구·개선되어 멘 토링의 효과를 높이는데 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있게 되기를 원한다.
