This research aims to seek the influence of technological orientation and social capital on the success of startup firms. Despite the efforts to actively support and to recognize the importance of startup firms for job creation and economic reform in the low growth, the results of domestic startup firms are yet unsatisfactory. Thus, this study was conducted with the purpose of defining the influence of technological orientation which is closely related to creating a relative advantage for startups and of the role of social capital which expedites the exchange and combination of intellectual capital. Through integrated empirical analysis on the influence of technological orientation and social capital on the innovative success of startups, this study tries to provide an implication for promoting startup firms. For empirical analysis of the impact of a domestic startup’s social capital on technological orientation and innovation performance, this study has collected data of startups under 7 years of establishment, residing in promotion centers such as the Center for Creative Economy and Innovation, and has conducted analysis through the structural equation model. Analysis results show the positive influence of technological orientation in innovation performance of startups. Technological orientation is positively related to the structural, relational, and cognitive dimensions of social capital. The hypothesis that social capital will mediate the relationship between technological orientation and innovation performance has only been confirmed in the cognitive dimension which includes the organization’s shared vision and values.

본 연구는 스타트업의 성과를 도출하기 위해 기술지향성과 사회적 자본의 영향을 탐구하는데 목적이 있다. 저성장 시대에 일자리 창출과 경제 개혁을 위해 스타트업에 대한 중요성 인식과 적극적인 지원정책에도 불구하고 국내 스타트업의 성과는 아직 미흡한 실정이다. 이를 위해 스타트업의 경쟁우위를 창출하는데 밀접한 영향을 미치는 기술지향성과 지식자원의 교환과 결합을 촉진하는 사회적 자본의 역할을 함께 고찰하고자 하였다.국내 스타트업의 사회적 자본이 기술지향성과 혁신성과의 관계에 미치는 영향을 실증 분석하기 위해 창조경제혁신센터 등 스타트업 육성시설에 입주한 7년 미만의 스타트업을 대상으로 자료를 수집하였으며 구조방정식 모형으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 스타트업에서 기술지향성은 혁신성과에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였으며 스타트업의 기술지향성은 사회적 자본의 구조적, 관계적, 인지적 세 가지 차원에 모두 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 사회적 자본이 기술지향성과 혁신성과 간의 관계를 매개할 것이라는 가설은 조직의 공유된 비전 및 가치를 포함하는 인지적 차원에서만 확인되었다.
