Corresponding to the new era that causes a variety of changes rapidly, changes of the design paradigm are creating bonds of sympathy among modern people through continuous relationship. Mark Bradford combines a variety of political, cultural and social issues to create an abstract image and represent the focus on lines and sides. Materials are used by wasted posters, signboards and papers. As using these materials, the work is made of the technique that combines collage and decollage. Therefore, the method of this study analyzes the formative qualities of BradFord's paintings with lines, sides, colors, and materials, and draw out of the motif. The conclusions drawn from this study are as following. First, the possibility that could broaden fashion design’s expression area was confirmed as introducing the motif caused by the formative characteristics of Bradford’s paintings. Second, the art of expression using diverse materials and the combination of techniques to emphasize the overlap of collage was developed by using inner items that overlap with fabric pieces. Decollage applied a hand cut-out technique to the non-workable felt material to maximize color contrast, space, permeability and three-dimensional representations. Third, flexibility of materials and various silhouette could be implemented by depending on material thickness, the number of layers, the size of cutting and sharp finishing touches. This study used the layering of materials and the hand cut-out technique to express the formative characteristics, expressed with the various lines and sides found in Bradford’s art works, in fashion design. Furthermore, if methods to combine various techniques for the expressions in modern fashion design will be analysed, studied and attempted to further develop based on this study, there is potential for unlimited expansion.

빠르게 변화하는 새로운 시대에 부합하기 위해 디자인 패러다임의 변화는 여러 분야와의 지속적인 상관관계를 통해 현대인들의 공감대를 형성하고 있다. 예술가 마크 브래드포드는 거미줄처럼 엮여 있는 현대인들의커뮤니케이션과 다양한 정치, 문화, 사회 이슈들을 통합하여 추상적인 이미지를 자아내고, 이를 선과 면을중심으로 표현한다. 재료는 주변 환경에서 발견되는 버려진 종이, 포스터, 간판 등을 사용하고, 성질이 다른재료들을 조화롭게 중첩시켜 붙이는 콜라주와 사포나 샌딩 기계를 이용하여 표면을 제거하는 데콜라주를결합한 기법을 주로 사용한다. 이에 본 연구는 브래드포드 회화작품의 조형성을 바탕으로 다양한 소재 사용과 기법의 결합방식을 응용하여 패션디자인에 접목시키고자 한다. 성질이 다른 두 소재를 사용하여 이너 아이템과 아우터 아이템으로 레이어드한 디자인으로 작품을 구성하고, 회화작품의 조형성 분석을 통해 도출된모티프는 소재의 표면을 제거하는 핸드 컷 아웃 기법을 적용함으로써 독특한 텍스쳐를 개발하여 투시성을강조한 패션디자인을 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 방법은 브래드포드 회화작품의 조형성을 선, 면, 색채, 재질로 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 조형적 모티프를 도출한다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 브래드포드 회화작품에서 나타나는 조형적 특성을 작품의 모티프로 도입함으로써 패션디자인의 표현영역을 확대 시킬 수 있는 가능성을 확인하였다. 둘째, 표현 기법으로는 작가의 다양한 소재 사용과 기법의 결합방식을응용하여 중첩성이 강조되는 콜라주는 크리스탈 노방 조각을 여러 겹으로 중첩시켜 개발한 소재를 사용하여이너 아이템으로 제작하였다. 데콜라주는 올이 풀리지 않는 펠트 소재를 핸드 컷 아웃 기법을 적용하여 표면을 제거함으로써 이를 통해 색채의 대비, 공간감과 투시성, 입체적인 형태를 극대화시켜 표현할 수 있었다. 셋째, 소재의 두께와 레이어의 개수, 커팅의 크기에 따라 소재의 유연성과 다양한 실루엣을 구현할 수 있었고, 올이 풀리지 않는 소재에 핸드 컷 아웃 기법을 적용하여 깔끔한 마감 처리가 가능하였다. 본 연구는 브래드포드 회화작품의 조형성을 바탕으로 다양한 소재 사용과 기법의 결합방식을 패션디자인에 응용한 결과, 창의적인 디자인과 텍스쳐 개발에 효과적임을 알 수 있었다. 아울러 본 연구를 통해 다양한 이미지를 결합하는 방식을 개발하는 시도가 계속된다면 무한한 확장의 가능성을 가질 수 있을 것이다.
