In 1894, when the Sino-Japanese War broke out in the Joseon, the Donghak peasant army rebelled in the south of Gyeonggi Province. The purpose of the insurrection was to expel the Japanese army. The insurrection which was held in Gyeonggi province near Seoul was no different from Jeolla and Chungcheong provinces. However, since they were attacked early on the road where the Joseon army and the Japanese army were dispatched, they can no longer be active in early November. This paper is a survey on the situation of Gyeonggi Province during the Sino - Japanese War and the process of suppressing Donghak peasant army in Gyeonggi Province.

1894년 청일전쟁이 조선에서 발발했을 때 경기도 남부 군현에서 동학농민군이 재봉기에 참여하였다. 일본군을 축출하기 위해 동학농민군이 봉기한 상황은 전라도나 충청도와 다르지 않았다. 그러나 경군과 일본군이 출진하는 길목에서 일찍 공격을 받았기 때문에 11월 초가 되면 더 이상 활동할 수 없게 된다. 이 논문은 청일전쟁이 벌어지고 동학농민군이 봉기했던 1894년의 경기도 상황을 살펴보기 위해 작성하는 것이다.
