The purpose of using regression analysis in studies related to sports and physical education is to confirm the estimated regression equation necessary to predict dependent variables as well as the significance of independent variables. However, measured data should meet several statistical assumptions to perform regression analysis. If not, the estimated regression equation will produce erroneous results; relative importance can be used as a measure to address this problem. In sports-related studies in South Korea, soccer takes up the largest portion at 25.6% among sports games. Using the data from K-league Classic, this study examined the problems of regression analysis and explored methods to determine the relative importance of independent variables. As a result, it was discovered that using relative importance was more efficient and desirable for decision-making than using regression analysis. The significance of this study lies in that it introduced methodology that can help draw more correct results and interpretation for researchers using regression analysis and quantitative research, which are used most often in sports studies in Korea.

스포츠 및 체육 관련 연구에서 회귀분석을 사용하는 목적은 종속변수의 예측에 필요한 추정회귀식과 함께 독립 변수의 유의성을 확인하는데 있다. 그런데 회귀분석을 수행하기 위해서는 측정된 자료들이 몇 가지의 통계적인 가정들 을 만족해야 한다. 그러지 않을 경우 추정된 회귀식은 잘못된 결과를 야기하게 된다. 이러한 문제에 대한 해결방안의 일 환으로 상대적 중요도를 활용하는 방법을 생각해 볼 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 국내 스포츠 관련 연구에서 25.6%로 서 개별 종목별로는 가장 높은 빈도를 보이고 있는 축구 중, K-리그 클래식 자료를 활용하여 회귀분석의 문제점을 살펴 보고 독립변수의 상대적 중요도 결정방법을 탐색해 보았다. 그 결과 회귀분석에 비하여 본 연구에서 소개된 상대적 중요 도를 의사결정에 활용하는 것이 더욱 바람직함을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 국내 스포츠 연구에서 대부분을 차지하는 양 적 연구 및 회귀분석을 활용하는 연구자들에게 보다 정확한 결과도출 및 해석을 하는데 도움을 줄 수 있는 방법론을 소 개했다는 점에 그 의의가 있다.
