This study attempts to take a close look at the nature of MAI and suggest government reaction. The primary goal of MAI is to set contestable market by removing all restriction and barriers in trade and investments. MAI deals with mandate, definition and scope of investments investment protection, treatment of investors/investment, dispute settlement, accession of non-OECD member countries exceptions, safeguards and reservations. New agreement in these parts will bring dramatic impacts in almost all Korean industries. In responding to this powerful environmental change in Korea economy, government must design strong policies for Korean firms to effectively improve their completive advantages under the true borderless world.
