A New Model of Balancing and Controlling System in Production Lines
초록
영어
Despite the fact that numerous heuristics as well as algorithms have been developed that address the problems of balancing and controlling production lines the problem persists. A primary problem with prior techniques lies in the assumption under which buffers as well as operator and machine variability factors are incorporated into the models, and in the fact that no provision is made for evaluating the impact or trade-offs in work-in-process, buffer sizes, operator assignments, lead time, and other factors on the performance of the line. Most models assume that by incorporating instability factors into the original design of the system, the line can be balanced and controlled. Also, many models are myopic in that limited conditions are placed on the design of the line. As an alternative, this paper proposes a dynamic balance/control framework (system). The dynamic approach, via the mechanisms of balancing, planning, adjustment, and implementation can be employed to initially balance and structure a line, and to re-balance the line when breakdowns, absenteeism, and changes in process yields occur. The system can also be used to resolve excess inventories prior to balancing and can be used to evaluate trade-off between factors in the production environment. This paper demonstrates the proposed dynamic balance/control framework via a hypothetical production problem.
