Difference, in production type seems to make the difference in manufacturing practices between two countries. The Korean manufacturers are more engaged in make-to-stock production whereas the Hungarian manufacturers are heavily involved in make-to-order type production. Forecasting for longer period of time, less frequent modification on forecasting, more use of time standards and on-time delivery of suppliers lead to higher order fulfillment ratio and shorter lead time in Korea. Less frequent modification on forecasting, use of shorter time unit and less changes in production schedules, higher in-process and final stage quality. more discretions on purchasing decisions and on-time delivery of suppliers characterize high delivery performance manufacturers in Hungary.
