Knowledge, Knowledge Production Process, and Performance

In this study, we suggest that there are two major components to knowledge creation that influence firm performance：the firm's ability to produce new knowledge through knowledge development process, and build on that knowledge continuously. Results from analyzing 30,000 patents of 45 firms for 19 years show that both unique knowledge and the ability to build on that knowledge significantly influence firms' performance.
