This study investigates spillover effects and determinants of capital productivity of the FDI firms and local firms in the automotive industry in Korea. The FDI firms have better productivity and increasing rate. So, productivity spillover effects was measured significant statistically. The Employment costs per employee and the Total asset turnover show positive relationship. The Property, plant and equipment per employee and the firm size show negative relationship. The training expenses per employee show positive relationship with only FDI firms. The R&D expenses to sales and the debt ratio show negative relationship with only FDI firms.

1997년 외환위기 이후 우리나라의 경영환경은 급격한 변화를 겪게 되었다. 당시 시급했 던 외환위기를 극복하고자 청부가 추진하던 과감한 경제개혁과 구조조정의 과정에서 외국 인직접투자의 중요성이 급격히 강조되어 우리의 경제문호를 외국자본에게 완전히 개방하였 다. 이러한 정부주도의 조치로 국내 주요기업에 외국인직접투자가 집중적으로 성사되었고, 이후 외국인직접투자는 국내 산업의 한 축을 차지하고 자본의 흐름은 물론 국가경제에 많 은 영향을 미치게 되었다.
