Exploratory Study on Service Quality in Language Education of Korean as a Foreign Language

Due to recent Hallyu, demand for language education of Korean as a foreign language has increased rapidly. However, there are several by-products of the sharp increase of demand for Korean language education. Despite the recent growth of quantity in Korean language education, such quality problems as deficiency of well-organized education and vulnerability of education process have been revealed because of confusion in its objectives and operations. Considering this reality, it could be inferred that fundamental efforts to stabilize and improve the recent quality of Korean language education are necessary. So, based upon the literatures of service quality and customer satisfaction in education area, components of service quality in language education of Korean and impact of those components were examined in this paper. According to the result, all SERVQUAL dimensions and two additional dimensions like level of student and human relationship have positive influence on student satisfaction for language education of Korean as a foreign language.

2001년 열린 제31차 정기총회에서 문화 획일화 및 문화 패권화 움직임에 대응하고자 유 네스코는 ‘문화다양성 선언’을 채택하였다. 이와 관련하여, 유네스코에서는 향후 100년이 지나기 전에 세계 언어의 90% 이상이 소멸될 것이라는 우려를 제기한 바 있다. 이러한 우 려에 대비하고자 세계 주요 국가에서는 이미 자국 언어를 근간으로 문화적 정체성을 확립 하고 이를 현대적으로 재생산하고자 하는 노력을 기울여오고 있다.
