In this paper, we investigate the causal relationship between performance measures of technology-based startup companies. Performance measures of organizational, technological, product, customer, and financial aspects are selected based on dimensions of balanced scorecard. Significant responses from 225 companies are obtained. Structural equation model is set up and tested. Organizational performance shows a significant impact on technological and product performances; technological performance leads to product performance; product performance leads to customer performance; customer performance in turn is connected to financial performance.

기술을 기반으로 하는 벤처기업은 신기술 또는 첨단기술을 바탕으로 창업을 통해 개발 아이디어를 상업화함으로서 높은 위험을 수반하지만 성공에 이르는 경우 높은 기대수익이 예상되는 기업이다(조형래, 1995). 벤처기업이 성공할 경우 기술개발, 고용창출, 생산성향 상, 산업혁신창출, 국가경쟁력 제고 등 다양한 경제적 파급효과를 가져오기 때문에 (Timmons and Bygrave, 1986; McMullan and Vesper, 1987), 여러 분야에서 벤처기업에 대한 활발한 연구가 이루어지고 있고, 이 중 벤처기업의 경영성과 결정요인에 대한 연구는 매우 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있다(채명수 ․ 강대석 ․ 이형택, 2002). 또한, 벤처에 대한 연구 는 기술경영의 주요 이슈로서 어느 한 분야에 집중되기 보다는 학제간 연구의 필요가 절실 히 요구되는 분야이기도 하다.
