This thesis is intended to examine how Japanese media covered the political scandals and the following impeachment of President Park Geun-hye in Korea. It deals with two different views between neutral daily newspapers and the forum magazines including right-wing newspapers, monthly magazines and books. Neutral media of Japan share similar views on this issue with Korean media that this political turmoil was caused by the authoritarian rule of Park and its peculiar power structure as well as inherent socio-economic inequality of Korea. The right- wing forum magazines, on the other hand, contend that it is the definite result of the unresolved pre-modern Confucius practices that one exercises his or her power not for the sake of the public but for his or her own good in alliance with their family factions. Furthermore, they argue that the impeachment of Park alone does not prevent similar turmoils that are likely to happen under the same culture and governance practices. Such a pessimistic view reveals ontological features of Japanese right-wing forum magazines. They reveal distrust in Korean democracy and stress pre-modern characteristics of Korean society, which hinders the development of the diplomatic relationship between Korea and Japan.

이 논문은 한국의 ‘박근혜 사태’에 대한 일본 언론의 시각을 중도파 신문을중심으로 한 저널리즘과 우파 신문과 잡지, 단행본을 중심으로 한 논단으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 중도파 신문은 ‘박근혜 사태’의 원인과 탄핵 결정에 대해 한국 언론과 유사한 시각을 나타낸 반면, 우파 신문을 비롯한 논단의 경우는 그와는 상반된 견해를 보였다. 중도파 신문은 ‘박근혜 사태’의 원인이 박근혜의 강권적 통치스타일과 권력구조상의 문제, 확대되는 사회경제적 불평등 때문이라보았고, 탄핵을 이끌어 낸 촛불시위는 30년 역사를 가진 한국 민주화 운동의연장선에 있다고 평가했다. 반면, 우파 신문과 논단은 ‘박근혜 사태’의 근본 원인이 한국 스스로가 청산하지 못한 전근대적 유교 문화의 산물인 ‘정치(情治)’, ‘속인주의’ 때문이며, 최고 권력자의 축출만으로 향후 이와 같은 혼란이 되풀이되는 것을 막을 수는 없다고 보았다. 또한 논단은 정치(情治)가 이번 사태의 해결 과정에서도 법치와는 배치되는 결과를 가져왔다고 비판한다. 일본 논단의‘비관적 한국론’에서 드러나는 인식론적 특징은 첫째, 한국의 ‘전근대성’에 대한강조, 둘째, 한국 민주주의에 대한 불신이다. 그 배경에는 ‘유교문화의 폐단’이현대 한국 사회에 여전히 존재하고 있다는 관점이 있고, 그것이 한일관계를 악화시키는 결정적인 원인이라는 주장도 개진된다.
