In July and June, 2016, we found dead adult Kaloula borealis in Daejeon and sick Hyla japonica tadpoles in Hapcheon, Gyeongnam, respectively. Edema and subcutaneous hemorrhage, typical symptoms of ranavirus infection, were observed on the specimens. To determine potential ranavirus infection, the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using a specific primer set of MCP4/MCP5, which targeting a partial sequence of ranavirus Major Capsid Protein (MCP) gene, was executed. In the PCR, 3 out of 6 K. borealis and 1 out of 11 H. japonica examined produced a targeted 500 bp DNA fragment. As the first report on ranavirus infection in wild amphibians in South Korea, our finding suggests that ranavirus was involved in the mortality of K. borealis and diseased symptoms of H. japonica in the wild.

2016년 7월과 6월 대전과 합천에서 각각 폐사한 맹꽁이 (Kaloula borealis) 성체들과 병적증상을 보인 청개구리 (Hyla japonica) 유생들을 발견하였다. 두 종 모두 라나 바이러스로 인한 질병증세인 부종과 피하출혈이 확인 되어 라나바이러스의 주기저단백질(Major Capsid Protein) 유전자에 특이적인 MCP4/MCP5 프라이머를 이용하여 PCR로 감염여부를 결정하였다. 검사한 6마리 의 맹꽁이 중 3마리와 11마리의 청개구리 유생 중 1마 리로부터 각각 목표로 한 500 bp DNA 분절을 확인하였 다. 이러한 결과는 국내 야외 양서류에서 라나바이러스 의 첫 번째 PCR 검출 결과이며, 더불어 맹꽁이의 폐사 와 청개구리 질병증상에 라나바이러스가 관여하였을 가능성을 보여준다.
