Empirical Analysis on the Economic Effects of ICT Industry Convergence
초록
영어
In this paper, we measure the degree of ICT industry convergence by industry and analyze its effects on industrial production and employment respectively. We measured the ICT industry convergence as ICT intermediate input ratio to gross output on the constant price basis using BOK’s input-output tables. With the panel data consisting of 4 years(year 1995, 2000, 2005 and 2010) and 64 industrial sector, economic impacts were analyzed using the fixed effect and AB[Arellano and Bond(1991)] estimation methods. According to the analysis results, firstly, it is shown that ICT industry convergence has increased to a great extent since 1995. The level and increase of ICT industry convergence depend on those of several industries such as electrical & electronic, precision instrument and broadcasting & communication service industries. Secondly, the level and increase of ICT industry convergence have been affected by those of ICT manufacturing convergence. Thirdly, while ICT industry convergence affected industrial production positively, we did not find that it made negative effect on industrial employment, differently from general expectation. Fourthly, while ICT manufacturing convergence made positive effect on industrial production, it did not affect industrial employment negatively. Lastly, we find that ICT service convergence has a possibility to make positive effect on industrial production and also affected industrial employment positively.
