The novel, I'm bad at studying (Bokuwa benkyoga dekinai), which is set in the YAMADA EIMI school, emphasizes that not only problems caused by bullying or discrimination, but also general common sense, all of which were considered as social norms until now are, in fact, old stereotypes, through the main character. This clearly shows YAMADA EIMI's resistance against the educational and family systems, excluding the unchangeable differences among generations. I have examined the characteristics and meanings of education, shown in the author’s work. Especially, I considered the true nature of YAMADA EIMI's work by examining a case of work replacement that was supposed to be included in the high school textbook in the 2003 spring edition, and the validity of this work as part of the textbook.

야마다 에이미의 학교를 무대로 한 『나는 공부를 못해』의 작품에는 이지메나 차별문제 뿐만 아니라 지금까지 사회규범으로서 생각되어진 일반상식이 사실은 낡은 고정관념인 것을 주인공을 통해 부각시키고 있다. 이것은 시대의 변화에도 변하지 않는 그런 이질성을 배제하고 있는 교육제도와 가족제도에 대한 야마다 에이미의 저항이 매우 명확하게 드러나고 있는 부분이다. 여기서 필자는 작가의 작품에 나타난 교육관이 어떠한 특징과 의미를 가지는지 고찰했다. 특히 2003년 봄에 고교 국어교과서에 수록될 예정의 이 작품이 갑자기 다른 작품으로 교체 되어버린 경위와 이 작품의 교과서로서의 타당성 여부에 관해 구체적으로 검토하는 것으로, 야마다 에이미의 문학의 실체를 짚어보았다.
