The purpose of this study is to examine the works of Tokyo Sainan Gashin by Takehisa Yumeji with a focus on the nation and its people, Yumeji's ideology behind it, and his perceptions of Joseon. Tokyo Sainan Gashin is a literary work of huge significance in that it conveys the miserable scenes of the Great Kanto Earthquake in the fastest way with no addition or omission and reflects the author's sharp insights and social satire. Most of all, it deserves attention because it offers direct and concrete descriptions of the power of a nation, in which people were instigated with wild rumors, and the sacrifice of the Joseon people through the “play of civil militia.” This contrasts his earlier socialist works, in which he indirectly addressed conflicts between government power and individuals or conflicts within Japan. It is the powerful manifestation of his post-nationalistic and trans-national consciousness. His positive opinions of Joseon will propose another developmental direction given the historical reality between Korea and Japan.

본 논문은 다케히사 유메지의 「도쿄재난화신」속 작품들을 국가와 국민에 주목하여 고찰하고, 그 기저에 흐르는 유메지의 사상과 더불어 그의 조선 인식을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 「도쿄재난화신」은 대지진의 참혹한 현장을 가장 빠르게 가감 없이 전달했을 뿐만 아니라, 유메지의 날카로운 통찰력과 사회 풍자를 엿볼 수 있다는 점에서 큰 의의가 있는 문학작품이다. 무엇보다도, 이전의 유메지의 사회주의적 작품들이 주로 일본 내에서의 갈등, 다시 말해 국가권력 대(對) 개인의 갈등을 간접적으로 표출한 것이었다면, 「도쿄재난화신」에서는 유언비어로 국민을 선동하는 국가라는 권력과 그로 인한 조선인의 희생을 「자경단놀이」를 통해 직접적이고 구체적으로 묘사했다는 점에 주목해야 한다. 이는 그의 탈(脫)민족, 탈(脫)국가의식의 강인한 발현이며, 조선에 대한 긍정적 견해는 한․일간의 역사적 현실을 고려할 때 하나의 발전적인 방향을 제시할 것이다.
