This study aims to clarify the cultural similarities and differences between Korea and Japan by analyzing their sports cultures. Apart from this, it focuses on sports culture as a subculture; especially, it considers the characteristics of national discourse and the course required to decode it. Through this, the study uses the sports media to try to identify the similarities and differences in the various cultures. As these courses determine the characteristics of the respective sports cultures of the two countries, they intend raising awareness about the cultures of the countries. This study finally analyzes the differences and similarities between the cultures of both countries and aims at enhancing the understanding of individual behavioral patterns and cultural characteristics of both nations.

본고는 한국과 일본의 스포츠 문화를 비교 분석함으로서, 한일 간의 문화적 유사성과 차이성을 명확히 하고자 하였다. 본고에서는 스포츠 문화라는 하위문화(subculture)를 분석의 대상으로 하였고, 특히 미디어에서 생산되는 내셔널적인 담론(discourse)의 특징과 이에 대한 수용자의 해독(decoding)의 과정을 고찰하였다. 이를 통해 스포츠 미디어를 둘러싼 다양한 문화적 차이와 유사성을 밝혀내고자 하였다. 이러한 과정들은 한일간의 스포츠 문화의 특성을 밝혀내고자 하였고, 이를 통해 양국의 국가라고 하는 사회구조적 배경을 통해 생산되는 내셔널리즘에 대한에 대한 이해를 높이고자 하였다. 이러한 논의를 진행하기 위해서 본고는 비교 연구에 관한 선행연구를 검토하였으며, 한일간의 미디어 스포츠가 구축하고 있는 내셔널적인 담론들을 분석하였다. 또한 이러한 미디어 텍스트에 대해 수용자가 어떠한 해독을 행하고 있는지 검토하였다. 이러한 과정을 통해서 본고에서는 한일간의 미디어 스포츠가 내셔널리즘의 고양을 이루고 있기는 하지만, 내셔널리즘의 구축 과정이 단순히 이데올로기적 기능만을 야기하는 것이 아니라, 능동적이고 자율적인 내셔널 아이덴티티의 구축 과정도 포함하고 있다는 것을 논증하였다.
