This paper considers the meaning of the 「iru(イル)」 clause in 「te-ite(テイテ)」, which represents attendant circumstance and the results are summarized as follows. First, the 「テ」 form in the action verb is essentially suitable for representing the meaning of occurring in succession. However, in cases in which it represents repetition of the same motion, the image of the movement, and also in the case of 「te-iru(テイル)」, which represents the process after the start of a motion by an action verb, even the 「te(テ)」 form of the action verb can represent attendant circumstance. Second, it is known that the 「te(テ)」 form of a stative verb cannot represent the meaning of attendant circumstance. In addition, the use of 「te-iru(テイル)」 in a subordinate clause cannot represent the meaning of attendant circumstance, inasmuch as 「te-iru(テイル)」 is a form representing a temporary or constancy state. However, it was possible to find some examples in which the subordinate clause 「te-iru(テイル)」 represents attendant circumstance. In this paper those verbs in the examples are sorted according to the maintaining verb. Furthermore, it is asserted that 「iru(イル)」 in the 「te-iru(テイル)」 form of the maintaining verb possesses the character of an action verb that is intentionally maintaining an established act.

本稿는 ＜付帯状況＞을 나타내는 「テイテ」 節을 대상으로 하여, 「テイテ」 節을 구성하고 있는 「イル」의 의미에 대해 고찰하였다. 고찰 결과는 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있다. 첫째, 동작동사의 「テ」形은 기본적으로 <継起>의 의미를 나타내기 쉽다. 그러나 동일한 동작의 반복을 나타내는 경우와, 이동의 모습을 나타내는 경우, 그리고 동작동사의 운동개시 후의 과정 단계를 다룰 수 있는 「テイル」의 경우는 동작동사라 하더라도 「テ」形으로 <付帯状況>을 나타낼 수 있다는 사실을 알게 되었다. 둘째, 状態動詞(혹은 静態動詞)라 불리는 동사들은 「テ」形으로 <付帯状況>의 의미를 나타낼 수 없다. 또한 「テイル」는 (一時的, 恒常的인)状態를 나타내는 형식이므로 従属節의 위치에 오는 「テイル」는 <付帯状況>의 의미를 나타낼 수 없다. 그러나 고찰 결과 <付帯状況>을 나타내는 従属節 「テイル」의 예문을 발견할 수 있었다. 本稿는 이들 예문에 나타나는 동사들을 <維持動詞>라 구분하고, <維持動詞>의 「テイル」形을 구성하는 「イル」는 <성립한 행위를 意志的(意図的)으로 持続(維持)하는 동작동사적인 성질>을 지니고 있다고 주장한다.
