The purpose of this paper is to review research concerning the present state and problems relating to the study of Japan's political diplomacy in Korea during the past five years. To accomplish this purpose, the research papers published in the Korean Political Science Review, Korean Journal of International Relations, The Korean Journal of Japanology, and The Korea Journal of Japanese Studies were classified according to categories such as Japanese Politics/Policy, Japanese History of Politics and Diplomacy, Japanese Foreign Policy (Security/Economy), Korea-Japan Relationship, U.S.-Japan Relationship, and Korean Foreign Policy toward Japan. The result of this research shows that a greater variety of themes has emerged during these five years. Especially, it was found that the number of papers pertaining to the Japanese Security Policy increased in 2013 and that this reflected the change in the security environment in Northeast Asia. However, the scarcity of theatrical research is a problem that needs to be solved by researchers of Japanese Studies.

본 논문은 한국에 있어서의 일본정치․외교의 현황과 과제에 대하여 최근 5년간의 연구를 중심으로 살펴보려는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 이 목적을 달성하기 위하여 최근 5년간 『한국정치학회보』,『국제정치논총』,『日本學報』,『日本硏究論叢』에 실린 일본정치·외교 관련 논문들을 일본국내정치·정책, 일본정치·외교사, 일본 대외정책-안보, 일본 대외정책-경제, 한일관계, 미일관계, 중일관계, 한국의 대일정책, 기타와 같이 10개의 주제로 분류하여 연구의 경향을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 최근 5년간 과거에 비하여 훨씬 다양한 테마의 연구가 행해졌다는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 2013년에는 특히 외교·안보분야의 연구가 뚜렷이 증가했는데, 이것은 동북아 안보환경의 변화와 일본의 안보정책 변화에 대응한 연구가 증가했기 때문이다. 다만 그럼에도 불구하고 현재 역사적인 전환기를 맞이하여 변화를 시도하고 있는 일본정치․외교에 대한 보다 이론적이고 개념적인 분석이 미진하다는 점을 향후의 과제로서 지적하지 않을 수 없다.
