Recently it is noticeable that the studies about Japan by Korean universities, research institutions, and academic groups have reduced. This thesis is to find the potentials on studies about Japan based on the approach of the international joint studies on the third space(nation/ continental). Especially, this study is focused on studies of immigration literature by Asians in Latin America and the forums of East Asia and contemporary Japanese literature managed by specialized research institutions. The joint studies placed on the third place can dismantle academic homogeneity in central areas or the main stream and enhance the comprehensive point of view that can be overlooked by individual studies. Also, intensified and segmentalized studies can be developed along with this effort by constructing network among international researchers. For successful international joint studies, it is important to establish academic identity of individual participants and consider glocalism, post-nationalism, and academic ethics. It is meaningful to present the human value in terms of glocalism.

최근 국내 일본관련 대학/연구소/학회의 각종 교육/연구 수치가 하강국면에 있다는 점은 주목되는 부분이다. 필자는 개별단위의 연구자 입장에서 최근 일본관련 연구의 새로운 가능성을 제3의 공간(대륙/국가)에서 진행되는 국제공동연구의 관점으로 살펴보았다. 특히 개별단위와 전문연구기관의 국제공동연구의 사례를 통해 확인할 수 있듯이, 제3의 공간에서 해체/탈구축 되는 공동연구지점(타자의식)은 중심/주류사회의 학문적 순혈주의에 균열을 가할 수 있고, 개별적인 연구가 간과하기 쉬운 거시/통시적 관점을 확보할 수 있고, 인류보편의 가치와 상생철학의 실현, 국제적인 연구 인프라와 인적 네트워크 구축을 통한 심화/세분화 된 연구를 이끌어낼 수 있다는 점에서 긍정적으로 보고 있다. 그리고 국제공동연구는 개별 연구자의 철저한 학문적 아이덴티티, 글로컬리즘과 초국가적 연구시좌, 연구윤리정신 준수가 중요하며, 글로컬리즘의 관점에서 인류보편의 가치를 실천하는 공간이라는 점에서 긍정적이다.
