Jogakbo, a patchwork wrapping cloth with the wisdom the ancestors and modern formative beauty, is Korea’s flagship cultural heritage to be a genre of handicraft that applies traditional Korean culture to people’s daily lives. The value of traditional culture is recognized for a long time. Therefore, there is a need to create design using the beauty of tradition and modern design. The remarkable unstandardized color sense and composition beauty of jogakbo are worthy of re-illumination for its unique artistry. Therefore, this study reanalyzes the geometric plane composition and antique color harmony in modern and stylish nail design through jogakbo to disseminate uniqueness and beauty of Korean tradition. For this, a total of eight different designs were examined to create differentiated nail design with jogakbo as a motif. As a result, the geometric structural patterns and diverse color matching effects of jogakbo were advantageous in creating a refined modern design. They were also useful in generating a simple and exquisite beauty of composition. Diverse designs were designed using Photoshop. Therefore, it is necessary to keep creating and inheriting the identity and beauty of Korea through diverse means by correct understanding of the characteristics of traditional culture and reanalyzing traditional cultural heritage from a modern perspective.

우리선조들의 지혜와 현대적인 조형미가 살아있는 조각보는 전통적인 우리의 문화를 일상생활에 접목시켜 대중화시킨 소재로 공예의 한 장르이자 한국을 대표하는 우리의 귀한 문화유산이다. 우리의 전통문화는 오랜 세월에 걸쳐 고유한 가치를 인정받음에 따라 전통미를 활용한 디자인 창출이 요구되고 현대적 디자인에 맞게 승화시켜야 할 필요성이 제기된다. 조각보의 정형화되지 않은 탁월한 색채감각과 구성미는 독특한 예술성을 지닌다는 점에서 새롭게 조명할 가치가 있으므로, 본 연구에서는 조각보를 통해 기하학적인 면구성과 고풍스러운 색채 조화에 의한 세련되고 현대적인 감각에 맞는 네일 디자인으로 재해석하여 우리만의 독창성과 전통미를 알리고자 하였다. 이에 전통적인 소재인 조각보를 모티브로 차별화된 네일 디자인을 구축하고자 총 8개의 디자인으로 연구한 결과, 기하학적인 구조적 패턴과 다양한 색채들의 탁월한 배색효과는 세련된 현대적 디자인에 용이하였고, 간결하고 절묘한 구성미 또한 응용가능성이 충분하였다. 또한 포토샵을 이용한 디자인 표현방법에 있어서는 다양한 디자인 창출이 가능하였다. 이와 같이 우리 고유의 문화 특성을 올바르게 인식하고 전통 문화 유산을 현대적으로 재해석하는 다양한 시도를 걸쳐 우리만의 정체성과 전통미를 창조, 계승시켜 나아가야 할 것이다.
