The central concepts of the metaphysics at the time were ghost, King of King, and sky. Although the usage frequencies of these concepts became different according to the changes of the era, on the whole, they had been understood with the personal, the presiding, and the mysterious meanings. And, regarding the intensities, there had been the differences according to the time and the school of thought. The body concisely organizes regarding the concepts of ghost, King of King, and sky in the Xia Shang Zhou ancient times and Confucius in the spring and autumn period. The personality of Lao-tzu‘s philosophy can be talked about in diverse ways. In this thesis, the critical mind was carved in relief. And, among the theoretical criticisms, the metaphysics was concentrated on. I, the writer, analyzed and organized the details of the criticisms of the metaphysics of the world of the thought at the time by Lao-tzu. But, Lao-tzu criticized all such metaphysical ideas at the time and established the way of heaven concept by developing the natural and objective idea of heaven. By generalizing this more, the concept of Tao was presented. I, the writer, intend to prove such an argument by mobilizing the traditional annotations and the theories of the modern times scholars.

노자철학의 성격을 다양하게 말할 수 있는데, 이 논문에서는 비판정신을 부각시켰다. 그리고 이론적 비판 중에서 형이상학에 집중했다. 노자가 당시 사상계의 주류 형이상학에 대하여 비판한 내용을 논자가 분석하고 정리했다. 당시 형이상학의 중심개념은 鬼神‧上帝‧天이었다. 이들 개념은 시대의 변화에 따라서사용빈도와 의미가 달라지기는 했으나, 대체로 인격적‧主宰的‧신비적 의미로 이해되었다. 그리고 그 강조점은 시기와 학파에 따라서 차이가 있었다. 본 논문에서는 노자의 형이상학 비판 대상으로 夏‧商(殷)‧周 상고시대와 춘추시대 공자의 鬼神‧上帝‧天 개념에 관하여 간략하게 정리했다. 그런데 노자는 당시의 이러한 형이상학적 관념을 모두 비판하고 자연적‧객관적 天 관념을 발전시켜 天道 개념을 확장했다. 그리고 이것을 더 일반화시켜 道 개념을 정립했다. 논자는 전통적인 주석과 현대학자들의 학설을 동원하여 이러한 주장을 입증하려고 했다.
