With the Industrial Revolution mankind overcame famine, disease, and war. Now with the help of Scientific Revolution, the biotechnology and the Artificial Intelligence, humans attempt to reach immortality, divinity, and eternal happiness. However, the Creator himself is co-operating with weak mortals electing his instruments for the continuing Mission of God. God may walk and work with a man but the man is not able by himself. The one only dwells close to the strong and mighty God. The study argues that remembering the obvious premise, 'God is God and a Man is a Man' is the first step establishing the human identity. The study first defines the Theology of Weakness, and explains the necessity of the theology today. Then it searches through the Old and New Testaments with the understanding of Mission of God, the grand narrative(the missional hermeneutics) to excavate the concept constantly appearing, the Theology of Weakness. Especially, the Theology of Weakness in Pauline theology and the Revelation will be the main focus. Lastly, the study explains the importance of the Theology of Weakness being viewed in the perspective of missional hermeneutics to missiology and Christian theology.

유한한(mortal) 인간이 무한한(immortal) 하나님의 자리(존재)를 넘보는 시도들은 원시역사에서부터 줄기차게 있어왔다. 산업혁명을 통해 기아, 질병, 전쟁을 극복해온 인류는 이제도 생명공학과 인공지능의 과학혁명을 통해 불멸과 신성과 영원한 행복을 차지하려 시도하고 있다. 그러나 정작 창조주 하나님은 계속되는 하나님의 선교에의 도구적 선택을 통해 연약한 인간과 동역해오고 계신다. 하나님이 인간을 그 파트너로 삼으시고 동행/동역하시더라도 인간은 결코 스스로 강해질 수는 없다. 강하고 능하신 하나님과 가까이 동행할 뿐이다. 이글은 “하나님은 하나님이시고 사람은 사람일 뿐”이라는 자명한 명제를 잊지 않는 것이 끝까지 인간의 정체성을 지켜주는 첫단추임을 주장한다. 글의 구성은 먼저 필자가 주장하려는 “약함의 신학”(Theology of Weakness)이 왜 그토록 이 시대에 필요한지를 역설할 것이다. 이어 본론으로 들어가 구약성경과 신약성경을 하나님의 선교라는 하나의 큰 이야기―선교적 해석학―로 살펴보면서 그 안에서 일관되게 나타나는 ‘약함의 신학’을 조사할 것이다. 특히 바울신학과 요한계시록에서 나타나는 약함의 신학을 중심으로 살펴볼 것이다. 마지막으로 선교적 해석학으로 훑어본 약함의 신학이 선교학 및 기독교신학에서 갖는 중요성을 기술하고 마칠 것이다.
