In this essay I review the field known as Visual Cultural Studies as it relates to art education within the even larger field of Cultural Studies. I critique the representational orientation of VCS and try to dislodge this view by turning to Deleuze and Guattari’s concept of affect, difference and singularity. The challenge to Visual Cultural in Art Education (VCAE) is how to move beyond the traps of designer capitalism that works the plurality of identities to continue its profit motivation by harnessing the images that are constantly appearing on our screens.

이 논문에서는 문화연구라는 보다 큰 틀 안에서 미술 교육과 연관되어 있는 시각문화연구(VCS) 분야에 대해 자세히 살피고자 한다. VCS의 재현적 지향을 비평하고, 들뢰즈와 과타리의 정동, 차이, 개인적 특이성 개념에 의지하는 방법으로 이러한 견해를 몰아내고자 한다. 미술교육의 시각문화연구(VCAE)에 대한 도전은 어떻게 하면 화면상에 지속적으로 나타나고 있는 이미지들을 이용함으로써 이익 유인을 지속시키기 위해 다수의 정체성을 이용하는 디자이너 자본주의 덫을 넘어 나아갈 수 있는가이다.
