This study aims to analyze the research activities related to the establishment and implementation of Arctic Policies in Korea and Japan. As a main content of the study, first of all, by analyzing quantitative and sectoral analysis of the research results from 2008 to present (2017) when preparations for joining the Arctic Council were made, we want to understand the similarities and differences of policies. We will present a comprehensive understanding of the Arctic policy in Korea and Japan through direct and indirect analysis of the Arctic policies of the two countries through literature survey, case study and comparative study. Through literature review, case studies, and comparative studies, we have examined the direction of the Arctic Strategy in Korea and Japan during the period. Based on the results, conclusions were drawn.

본 연구는 한국과 일본의 대 북극 연구 경향 및 전략을 비교 분석해보고자 한다. 연구내용과 구성은 다음과 같다. 먼저 북극이사회 가입 준비가 진행되었던 2008년부터 현재(2017년)까지의 연구결과물에 대한 양적, 분야별 분석을 시도한 후, 동 기간 동안의 양국의 북극 연구정책 전개에 대해서 정리 분석하여 정책의 유사성 및 차이점을 정리해 보았다. 연구방법으로는 문헌조사, 사례연구 및 비교연구 등을 사용하였으며, 이를 통해 한국과 일본의 북극정책에 대한 직간접적인 분석을 시도하고 양국의 북극정책 이해의 종합적인 이해의 토대를 구축하고자 했다. 이에 따라 한국과 일본에서 운영되고 있는 대표적인 논문 검색 사이트를 이용해서 연구 분석기간에 해당하는 연구 성과물을 분류하고 분석하였으며, 문헌조사, 사례연구 및 비교연구를 통해서 해당기간동안 한국과 일본의 북극전략의 방향성에 대해서 알아보았으며 이를 바탕으로 양국의 연구경향 및 연구전략의 유사성과 차이점에 관련된 결론을 도출하고자 했다.
