The purpose of this study is to provide a basis for contributing to the practice of global citizen education by suggesting teaching-learning strategies of social studies for improving cultural diversity competence. Based on UNESCO’s ‘Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity’, the concept of cultural diversity and cultural diversity competence was defined. And ‘Deardoff’s principle’ and ‘Bennett’s 4 steps’ were used to prepare strategies. The features of strategies are as follows. First, this considers the holistic development of students. Second, it presents all processes that improve competence and features at each stage. Third, it makes possible to use only some steps, thus enhancing the applicability of the field. The teaching and learning programs that are applied the strategy as follows. One is designed in a way to discover various cultures around the world, accept cultural differences and finally internalize the value of cultural diversity. The other is designed to understand the value of biodiversity in ecosystem and appreciate the positive value of diversity by learning the value of cultural difference on the basis of biodiversity.

본 연구는 문화다양성 역량 증진을 위한 사회과 교수학습 방안을 제시함으로써 세계시민교육 실 천에 기여할 수 있는 기반을 마련하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 유네스코의 ‘문화다양성 선언’에 기초하여 문 화다양성과 문화다양성 역량의 개념을 규정하였으며, ‘Deardoff의 문화다양성 역량 증진의 원리’와 ‘Bennett의 문화다양성 역량 개발을 위한 4단계’에 근거하여 문화다양성 역량 증진을 위한 사회과 교수학 습 방안을 탐색하였다. 교수학습 방안의 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생의 전인적 발달을 고려하였다. 둘 째, 문화다양성 역량이 증진되는 전 과정과 각 단계별 특징을 함께 파악할 수 있도록 하였다. 셋째, 4단계 중 일부 단계만으로도 활용할 수 있도록 하여 현장적용 가능성을 높였다. 방안을 적용한 수업 사례는 각 각 세계의 다양한 문화를 인식하고 문화간 차이를 수용하며 문화다양성의 가치를 내면화할 수 있는 내용 과 생태계에서 생물다양성이 갖는 의의를 이해하고 이를 바탕으로 문화다양성의 의미와 가치를 학습함으 로써 다양성이 갖는 긍정적 가치를 인식하는 내용으로 개발되었다.
