Relationship between Perceived Parenting Style and Life Satisfaction of Male and Female High School Students - Mediating Effect of Self-Esteem -

In this study, the mediating effects of self-esteem in the relationship between parenting style and life satisfaction perceived by high school students were compared and analyzed according to gender. The results are as follows. First, there was a gender difference in perceived overprotective parenting style and life satisfaction. Second, the parenting style which have a significant effect on the satisfaction of life were analyzed to be somewhat different according to gender. Third, the relationship between the perceived rejecting parenting style by the male students and the life satisfaction was fully mediating effect of self-esteem. For females, The partial mediating effect of self-esteem was found in the relationship between perceived rejecting parenting style and life satisfaction. Both male and females, self-esteem partially mediated the relationship between affectionate parenting style and life satisfaction. For males, perceived overprotective parenting style did not significant correlation between life satisfaction and self-esteem. For female, self-esteem fully mediated the relationship between perceived overprotective parenting style and life satisfaction. I discussed the implications of the results of this study and presented future research directions.
