This study is to trace how to create and develop in the ancient history of Buan. First of all, Buan resisted against Baekje as Jibanguk, one country of Mahan. After Buan actively surrendered to Baekje in 369, it grew to be the region which played a leading role of politics, the ocean and the military immediately. Henceforward it again became the center of resistance movement. Juryu-fortress in Buan was start point of ‘Revival Baekje’ to draw the widespread support from entire Baekje area. However it became to be changed under the new ruling order after failure of reconstruction movement. Silla divided and ruled Gosaju into Daesangun and Gobugun to degenerate ‘Baekje’s awareness’ in this region. 100 years passed after Silla’s annexation, resistance awareness was still the same. Jinpyo, one person of Baekje, practiced asceticism in Buan and found enlightenment as an agent of Maitreya, and the enthusiastic response of local residents about him meant the revival of the Baekje’s awareness. This revival finally was connected to Hubaekje. Like this, it went to show that there was the continuation as a part of Mahan, the center of reconstruction movement of Baekje, and the start point of Baekje’s revival from the ancient period in Buan.

부안이 고대 역사 속에서 어떻게 생성⋅발전하였는지를 추적해 보았다. 우선 부안은 마한의 하나인 지반국(支半國)으로써 백제에 저항하였다. 하지만 서기 369년 에 능동적으로 백제에 투항한 후에 부안은 곧바로 정치⋅군사⋅해양의 중요한 역할을 담당하는 지역으로 성장하였다. 이후 다시 부안은 국가 멸망의 시점에서 저항운동의 중심지가 되었다. 부안의 주류성은 백제 전 지역으로부터 폭넓은 지지를 이끌어내기 위해 ‘부흥백제국’의 시작점이었다. 그러나 부흥운동의 실패 후 부안은 새로운 통치 질서 아래서 변화하게 된다. 신라는 이 지역의 ‘백제 의식’을 변질시키고자 저항 거점인 주류성을 포함하는 고사주를 대산군과 고부군으로 분할하여 통치하였다. 하지만 신라 병합 후 100여년이 흐른 시점에서도 저항 의식은 여전하였다. 부안에서 수행하며 미륵보살의 대행자로 깨달음을 얻은 백제사람 진표에 대한 지역 주민들의 열렬한 환영은 백제 의식의 부활을 의미하며, 이러한 백제 정신의 부흥은 결국 후백제로 이어지게 된다. 이처럼 부안은 고대 시기부터 마한의 일원으로, 백제 부흥운동의 중심지로, 백제 부활의 시작점으로 끊임없는 저항의식을 보여주었다.
