In contemporary art, drawing no longer refers solely to sketching or practice. It refers to the author's idea itself, or serves as the most direct medium to represent his or her inner expressions. Drawing as well as photography can be important types of media that have altered art concepts since their emergence, as art jumped into experiments on its form and purity after photography served to represent the world in way for which art used to be responsible. This paper begins with an analysis of works which integrate photography and drawing since the 1960s and aims to explore the characteristics of contemporary art under the grand theme of drawing and photography. To do this, the paper investigates historical changes and extended concepts while also exploring the beginning as well as patterns of historical change related to this type of art. Lastly, it analyzes works where drawing and photography are combined. The findings show that these works comply with a more conceptualized form of art, the pursuit of immateriality, and the ruin of demarcation among genres, indicating that the two areas are indispensably selected. By extending the concept of the line, which serves as the basis for drawing and making it a process or performance, photography is incorporated as a record medium, actively used for narrating the author's secret confessions, discovering identities, and reviving narratives, while also being integrated with language. In the end, photography and drawing are closely intertwined. The findings here and their implications contribute to a better understanding of a greater variety of patterns of contemporary art through the given explorations of the characteristics of drawing and photography.

현대미술에서 드로잉은 더 이상 밑그림이나 습작의 개념이 아니다. 작가의 머릿속에 있는 아이디어그 자체를 말하기도 하고, 작가의 내면 표현에 가장 직접적인 매체가 되기도 한다. 드로잉 뿐 아니라 사진 역시 탄생이후로 미술의 개념을 바꿔 놓은 중요한 매체이다. 사진이 미술이 담당하던 세계의 재현이라는 역할을 한 이후로 미술은 자신의 형식과 순수성을 실험하게 되었기 때문이다. 이 논문은 드로잉과 사진이라는 큰 주제 아래, 1960년대 이후 드로잉 작품에서 사진과 결합된 작품들을분석하여 현대미술의 특징들을 살펴보려는 것에서 출발하였다. 그러기 위해서 드로잉의 역사적 변천과 확장된 개념들을 살펴보고, 사진의 영역 역시 마찬가지로 그 시작과 개념의 변천들을 고찰하였다. 마지막으로 드로잉과 사진이 결합된 작품들을 분석하였다. 결과 드로잉과 사진을 결합한 작품들은 미술이 점차 개념화 되고, 비물질성의 추구, 장르 간 경계가 허물어지는 현상 등을 따라감으로써필연적으로 두 영역이 선택되었음을 알 수 있었다. 드로잉의 근본이 되는 선의 개념을 확장시키고그것을 과정이나 퍼포먼스로 실현함으로써 사진은 기록 매체로서 결합하거나, 작가의 내밀한 고백으로써의 말하기, 정체성 찾기, 내러티브의 부활 등을 위해 도상을 적극적으로 쓰고 언어와 결합하면서 사진과 드로잉은 서로 긴밀히 연결되었다. 드로잉과 사진의 속성들을 살펴봄으로써 점점 더 다양해지는 현대미술의 양상을 이해를 도모하는데 이 연구의 의의가 있다고 하겠다.
