Most of the folk songs contained in the music textbooks of elementary, junior high and high schools are popular folk songs sung by technical singers, especially, from the Gyeonggi province. For this reason, efforts to discover folk songs of the Gyeonggi province and include them as musical pieces in the textbooks should be made. This study looked into the distribution and characteristics of the working fishermen folk songs of the Gyeonggi province and has suggested musical pieces suitable for being included in textbooks. Because the Gyeonggi province has a small number of beach-front areas, fishing folk songs are found only from the western are as such as Incheon, Ongjin, Ganghwa, Hwasung and Pyeongteak. Such fishing folk songs are varied in terms of not only function but also mode and vocalism style. As musical pieces for textbooks, such pieces as the oyster-digging song, the rope-twisting song, the rowing song, and the fish-releasing song were suggested. The oyster-digging song uses 4 beats(3 small beats) and gyeong- tori and is sung as a solo. This song was usually sung by women of the seashore with words relating to labor or their own misfortune. The rope-twisting song was designated as an intangible cultural asset of the Incheon area and consists of a total of 8 songs related to the process of twisting a rope. Among them, the rope-releasing song has words relating to the labor of rope-twisting and uses 4beats (3 small beats) and Menari-tori. The rowing song accounts for most of the working fishermen folk songs and the song has often been sung in the Gyeonggi province. It has the call-and-response singing cycle not a fixed or free vocalism style. The fish-releasing song has the most different types in terms of tori, beat structure and vocalism style and can provide musical pieces suitable for being contained in textbooks according to the instruction. In addition, the fish-releasing song has a simpler melody and structure than the rowing song, and while having varied vocalism styles is suitable for being applied to education. More efforts should be made so as to discover additional folk songs and should be made to select proper ones according to the level of elementary, junior high and high schools so that musical educators can effectively teach to our next generation the precious inheritance left by our ancestors.

민요는 민중들의 삶 가운데 자연스럽게 생겨난 소리로, 우리 선조들의 생활 모습과 생각이 담긴 매우 귀중한 유산이며, 큰 교육적 가치를 지닌다. 특히 향토민요는 전문 소리꾼들에 의해 다듬어진 통속민요 보다 사설 및 음악적인 면에서 민요의 본질적인 모습을 올곧게 간직하고 있고, 그만큼 교육적 효과는 더욱 뛰어나다. 그러나 향토민요는 자생한 노래인 만큼 형식이 통일되어 있지 않고 매우 복잡한 양상을 띠고 있으며, 각 지역마다 여러 소리가 존재하고, 하나의 소리도 부르는 이에 따라 조금씩 다르게 표현 되어, 보편적이면서 통일된 하나의 악곡을 선정하는 데에 어려움이 있다. 때문에 그간 초․중․고교 과정의 교과서 수록곡은 통속민요를 중심으로 한 경우가 많았고, 최근 들어 향토민요의 비중이 점차 높아지고 있다. 그러나 경기 지역은 여전히 통속민요에 치중하고 있어, 경기 지역 향토민요의 교과서 제재곡 개발이 시급하다. 이에 본고에서는 경기 지역 어업노동요의 분포와 특징을 개관하고, 그 중 교과 서 제재곡으로 적절한 악곡을 선정하여, 구체적인 음악 분석과 교육의 방향을 간단히 언급해 보았다. 경기 지역은 바다와 인접한 지역이 적어, 인천․옹진․강화․화성․평택 등 서부 지역에 한정되 어 어업노동요가 발견된다. 그러나 기능적으로 매우 다양한 소리가 발견되며, 음악적으로도 토리 및 가창 형식에서 다양성을 띠고 있다. 교과서 제재곡으로는 굴캐러가는소리, 줄꼬는소리, 노젓는소리, 고기푸는소리 중 몇 곡을 제시하였 다. 굴캐러가는소리는 3소박 4박자에 경토리를 사용하고 독창으로 불린다. 이 소리는 바닷가 여인들 의 소리로, 굴 캐는 노동과 관련된 사설을 부르기도 하지만, 여인들의 신세한탄 사설로 구성되기도 한다. 줄꼬는소리는 인천 지역 무형문화재로 지정되어 있는데, 줄 꼬는 과정과 관련하여 총 8곡의 소 리로 구성된다. 그 중 줄놓는소리는 줄 꼬는 노동과 관련된 사설을 부르고, 3소박 4박자의 규칙적인 박자 구조에 메나리토리로 선율을 이룬다. 노젓는소리는 어업노동요 중 가장 큰 비중을 차지하는 소 리로, 경기 지역에서는 <어야디야소리>가 많이 불린다. <어야디야소리>는 일반적으로 메기는소리 와 받는소리의 주고받는 주기가 유동적이며, 자유로운 가창 형식을 띠고 있으나, 교과서 제재곡으로는 규칙적인 박자 구조를 갖는 소리를 제시하였다. 고기푸는소리는 토리와 박자구조, 가창 형식에서 가장 다양한 유형을 보유하고 있어, 교육 내용에 따라 절적한 곡을 선택할 수 있다. 특히 노젓는소리보다 선율 및 구조가 단순하면서도 다양한 가창 형식을 보유하고 있어, 교육적으로 활용하기에 적합하다. 앞으로 더 많은 향토 민요의 발굴이 이루어지고, 이를 초등학교와 중․고등학교 각 수준에 맞게 적절히 선택하여, 우리 선조들이 남긴 귀중한 유산을 자라나는 후속 세대에게 효과적으로 가르칠 수 있도록 더 많은 노력을 기울여야 할 것이다.
