The Revised Music Curriculum of 2007 clarifies to instruct and guide students considering connections of music studies to other curricula. Accordingly, this research has designed an integrated lesson for music and social studies. In particular, a lesson plan for Korean music in elementary school was designed making use of the Korean genre pictures in the textbooks of social studies for 5th grade, and a lesson plan about the life and aesthetic enjoyment of ancestors in Korean was designed out of them. In addition, the research investigated the changes in the students before and after the class. The results are as follows. First, there were positive changes in students’ interest level with regard to the Korean traditional music and society, and that there were a fairly large number of students who responded that they were able to understand easier, especially when they learned Korean traditional music in tandem with social studies. Second, regarding the level of understanding of Julpungnyu and Samhyeon yukgak, the result revealed that a large number of the students became able to understand it in a comparatively more accurately than before the lesson. Third, as to the students’ understanding of the high-ranking aristocratic officials and commoners in Joseon Period, the most of students were able to infer social status system of those days from the genre pictures.

2007년 개정 교육과정에서는 음악 교과와 타 교과의 연계를 고려하여 학생들을 지도할 수 있도 록 명시하고 있는데, 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 음악과 사회 교과를 통합하여 수업을 설계해 보았다. 특히, 초등학교 5학년 사회 교과에서 다루고 있는 풍속화를 활용한 초등 국악 수업안을 고안해 내 었는데, 그 중에서도 풍속화 속에 담긴 옛 조상들의 삶과 풍류에 대한 수업안을 설계하였고, 이를 실제 수업에 적용하고 난 후 수업 전과 수업 후의 학생들의 변화를 알아보았다. 그 결과 첫째, 학생들은 수업 전에 비해 수업 후에 국악에 대한 흥미도와 사회과에 대한 흥미도 에 있어서 긍정적인 변화를 보여 주었고, 특히 국악과 사회를 같이 배울 때 이해가 더 잘된다고 응 답한 학생들이 상당히 많아졌음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 줄풍류와 삼현육각에 대한 이해도의 변화에 있어서는 수업 전에 비해 수업 후에 많은 학생들이 비교적 정확히 이해하게 된 것으로 조사되었다. 셋째, 조선 시대 양반과 상민에 대한 이해도에 있어서는 대부분의 학생들이 풍속화를 통해 그 당시 의 신분제를 추리해 낼 수 있게 된 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
