From the restoration of independence till today, Korean society has repeatedly neglected traditional culture. As a result, surrounding countries have had the opportunity to distort our history more and more. In an effort to reverse this trend, a portion of schools and societies have started a campaign to revive an appreciation and understanding of our native culture and history. It is very difficult to know whether first grade students understand the importance of our culture and historical awareness. Therefore, it is necessary to find ways to teach about traditional culture through expressive activities and plays that young children can relate to and enjoy. I developed such programs as follows: First, I made small groups, decorated the classroom, trained the students to follow the rules, and explained conditions for completing activities. Second, students learned basic skills like displaying a positive attitude, and putting the material to use. Third, students internalized the value of our traditional culture through various expressive activities, including physical, musical, art, writing and speaking activities. The result of this program was that students improved their understanding and interest about our traditional culture. They developed positive feelings about our traditions through participation in the activities, especially the physical ones. They left the program wanting to learn even more about our traditional culture.

해방 이후 오늘날까지 조상들로부터 전해 내려온 우리 문화에 대하여 무관심하고 소홀하게 취급 한 경우가 많았고 우리 주변국들의 역사왜곡이 심해지면서 그것에 대처하기 위하여 학교와 사회 일 각에서는 우리의 문화와 역사 찾기 운동을 활발히 전개하고 있다. 그러나 학교생활을 처음 시작한 1학년 학생들에게 우리 문화의 중요성을 인식시키고 역사의식을 고취시키기는 너무나 추상적이고 난해한 일이므로 학년 수준에 맞게 학생들이 쉽게 관심과 흥미를 가질 수 있는 놀이나 표현활동을 중심으로 전통문화에 대한 교육 내용을 구성하여 전통문화 가치를 내면화 할 수 있는 방법을 모색하는 것이 필요하여 그에 알맞은 다양한 표현활동 프로그램을 구 안․적용하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 그에 따라 첫째, 소집단 구성, 환경 구성, 학습규칙 훈련, 칭찬 나무 키우기 및 지도요소를 추출하 여 표현활동을 전개할 수 있는 여건을 조성하였으며, 둘째, 기본자세 익히기, 기초 학습기능 기르기, 자료 활용하기, 학습지 활용하기를 통하여 다양한 표현활동을 하기 위한 기초 능력을 길렀으며 셋 째, 신체적 표현활동, 음악적 표현활동, 조형적 표현활동, 언어적 표현활동을 함으로써 전통문화 가 치를 내면화하였다. 그 결과 전통문화에 대한 인식도가 향상되었으며 여러 가지 표현활동을 통하여 학생들이 전통문 화를 친근하게 느끼며 흥미를 갖고 좋아하게 되었으며 그 중에서도 신체적 활동을 제일 선호하였다. 또한 학생들이 다양한 표현활동을 통하여 전통문화에 대하여 앞으로도 계속적으로 배우고자 함을 알 수 있었다.
