Recent efforts by the Korean nation to focus on music education for the musically gifted are encouraging. Music teachers in charge of public education are taking greater care to cultivate not only the average students but also the gifted who have the potential to influence the development of our national musical culture. Natural talent must be nurtured or it will fade. In this study, I observed and analyzed students who participated in music class or activities after school to discover the characteristics of the gifted and propose a corresponding evaluation scheme. First, I formed a concept of genii by analyzing several types of the learners and clarifying the correlation between the types of learning and the types of motive. Second, I searched for new evaluation methods to access the essence of a genius by analyzing the controversial point of the evaluation of the superior in practical skill of Gugak and overcoming the gaps between the environment and the private conditions. I especially focused on discovering capable students who are willing to contribute to the public good. Third, I subdivided the genius evaluation into three areas: skill‐based, motive‐based, and humanity‐based, and gave shapes to the examples of the evaluation methods of these areas. The study is expected to be an aid for planning gifted education programs for Korean music while presenting various approaches for its implementation. My analysis leads me to believe that in order to identify the gifted, it is important to widen the evaluation scope from practical skill to a broader range of abilities such as leadership, intellectual capability, and creativity. In addition, persistent interest and a cooperative disposition are needed among Korean music education communities, culture‐art world, and public education organizations. Finally, I suggest that teachers intensify their efforts to discover the gifted for Korean music and take greater responsibility for guiding their future.

음악 분야의 발전에 지대한 영향을 줄 수 있는 영재의 발굴과 교육에 대해 국가 차원의 노력이 시작되고 있는 것은 매우 고무적인 일이다. 그에 따라 공교육을 담당하는 음악교사들은 일반 학생 들의 교양교육 뿐만 아니라 영재성에 대한 잠재능력이 있는 학생들에게도 관심을 기울여 적극적인 진로지도를 통해 재능이 방치되거나 사장되지 않도록 노력해야 할 것이다. 본 연구에서는 일선학교의 음악수업이나 특기․적성(계발활동, 방과후 학교 등) 수업에 참여한 학 생들을 관찰하고 분석하여 영재의 특성을 알아보고 그에 따른 평가방안을 제안하였다. 첫 번째, 학습자의 여러 유형을 분석해보고 학습의 유형 및 동기의 유형과 영재성의 상관관계를 밝혀 영재성의 개념을 정립하였다. 두 번째, 현재의 국악 실기 우수아 진단 방법에 대한 문제점을 분석하고 환경과 개인의 여건 차 이를 극복하여 영재의 본질에 접근할 수 있는 새로운 평가 방법을 모색하였다. 특히, 공익에 기여할 마음가짐을 지닌 인재를 발굴할 수 있도록 하는 데 초점을 두었다. 세 번째, 영재성 평가 내용을 기능영역, 심동적 영역, 인성적 영역으로 구분하고 각 영역에 대한 평가 도구의 예시를 구체적으로 제시하였다. 본 연구가 국악 예술영재교육의 다양한 방향을 제시하는 가운데 있는 시점에서 국악 예술영재교 육의 기초를 마련해 나아가는데 작게나마 일조하기를 바란다. 더불어 앞으로 국악 예술영재의 발굴 과 교육성과를 위해 영재성의 범위가 실기뿐 아니라 리더쉽, 지적능력, 창의력 등의 폭넓은 역량을 평가하도록 넓어져야 하며, 국악교육계, 문화예술계, 국가교육기관등의 꾸준한 관심과 협력이 필요 하며, 일선 교사들의 국악 영재 발굴과 향후 진로 지도의 역할 강화를 제안하고자 한다.
