In this article, I attempted to analyze the mental conflicts of three main characters in the “AKI”, the first post modern psychological novel of Akutagawa. As a prerequisite for the analysis, I studied the Nobuko`s image of author Akutagawa which is described by the elder sister Nobuko.
First, Akutagawa did not describe Nobuko as a critical person. Rather, he described her as a psychological person with dark inner-mind. This image of Nobuko infers the view of Akutagawa toward modern women with education. Next, the jealous psychology and factors surrounding triangle relationship are summarized. The emotional conflict and jealousy among two sisters toward Shunkichi had been sprouted long before the marriage. This hidden conflict of sisters is indeed the main subject of “AKI”. Three people continuously avoid to face their candid emotions in various ways. They use soft expressions, not aggressive words, and do not elucidate who the assailants and the victims are in this triangle relationship. It is not clear who has what kinds of discontent against whom. They keep their distance thinking about the triangle relationship because of the reality, and there was no way to escape from their current situation which was laid in front of them. However, when we read “AKI” with the jealousy of sisters in mind, we know that the actions of sisters were rooted based on their jealousy.

본 연구는 아쿠타카와의 최초의 근대적 심리소설 『아키』에 등장한 세 사람의 주인공을 둘러싼 갈등심리에 대해 고찰하고자 하였으며, 그에 다가가기 위한 전제로서 언니 노부코를 통해 묘사되어진 작가 아쿠타가와의 노부코상에 대해서 검토하였다. 우선 아쿠타가와는 노부코를 비판적 인물로 묘사하지 않았다. 끝까지 내면 속에 음침함을 지닌 심리적 인물로 그리고 있다. 즉 노부코는 내면심리와는 반대로 결국 현실을 극복하지 못하는 여성이다. 이러한 아쿠타가와의 노부코상은 아쿠타가와가 바라본 당시 신학문을 배운 신여성들의 모습이라고 추론된다. 다음 삼각관계를 둘러싼 질투 심리와 그 요소에 대해 정리하면, 먼저 슌키치를 둘러싼 자매간의 갈등과 질투는 두 자매의 결혼 훨씬 이전부터 싹트고 있었던 감정으로서, 자매의 감추어진 갈등이 그야말로 작품 『아키』의 중심 주제라고 생각된다. 세 사람은 각인각색의 방식으로 자신의 솔직한 심정과 마주 대하는 것을 계속 피하고 있다. 그들은 서로 자극적인 말은 피하면서 완곡한 표현을 통해, 그들에게 있어 삼각관계의 피해자는 누구이며 가해자가 누구인지 분명하게 가리지 않는다. 누가 누구에게 어떤 불만을 갖고 있는지도 분명하지 않다. 삼각관계를 의식한 세 사람은 각자 거리를 유지하는데, 결국 그것은 각자의 입장을 벗어날 수 없는 요지부동의 현실이 세 사람 앞에 놓여있기 때문이었을 것이다. 하지만 그럼에도 불구하고 자매의 질투의 정에 착목한 『아키』를 읽어 가면 자매의 행동이 얼마나 질투에 의해 빚어진 작품인가를 확인할 수 있다.
